Lead Teachers & Classes

Miss. D ~ Lead Teacher - Giraffes

Educational Philosophy:
I believe that God made each child special in different ways. My goal in teaching is to guide these children to be who God has planned them to be; I’m just one step of that process. My student’s come to me so young that I believe   the most important thing we learn together is the social emotional development stage. What they will learn in my class will set them on the course of furthering their education and becoming you God planned for them to be.

Years of experience/Education:
I have been in Early Childhood Education for 7 years and have been in Children’s Ministries’ for the last 10.

Maricella Longoria ~ Lead Teacher Hippos

Educational Philosophy:
I believe that all children have something to give to this world that demonstrates Christ’s love for them and for others. I am eager to create a happy, fun learning environment where children are free to explore the gifts that God has given them. I believe that with the Bible as our authority, we can demonstrate His work in our lives by our speech, our works, our thoughts, and most important, our love.

Years of Experience/Education:
I have worked with children of all ages for 8 years. I’m currently pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and am working towards my license.

Melissa Lazerow ~ Lead Teacher Hippos

Educational Philosophy:
My goal is to make learning fun and encourage children to dig deeper and discover what inspires them. It is my belief that if learning is fun, it will foster a lifelong love of learning. I believe that a ‘child-led’ classroom will be both enjoyable and educationally successful for the children thereby allowing us to explore new topics. I believe in using multiple learning methods to ensure a high level of understanding for every child. I look forward to helping your children grow cognitively, socially, emotionally, and spiritually!

Years of experience/Education:
I earned my AA in Early Childhood Care and Education in 2010 and my BA in Child and Family Development in 2013. I served as a Christian Summer Camp Counselor for six years in Geneva, Ohio. I have been a Stay-at-home-mom educating my three boys for the past seven years and I currently teach Sunday school to three year olds at Westwood Baptist Church in Olympia.

Katelyn May ~ Lead Teacher Zebras

Educational Philosophy:
Children are born wanting to learn. Babies explore with their five senses, and young children ask a question every two minutes. They are curious by nature and thirsty for knowledge. I try to keep in mind each day that children are all still learning. How to socialize, how to use their bodies, how to control their reactions. It’s a big world and sometimes it can be overwhelming for little learners. We as adults and educators need to keep that in mind as we guide them. Let them ask the questions, let them make mistakes. Show them how to be kind and use their words, because ultimately all they want is to learn. And at their young ages, everything is a lesson.

Years of experience/Education:
I have my ECE certificate and have always enjoyed working with young children. My first year teaching was a half day kindergarten. Then I worked at Annie Wright Schools for 4 years doing programming for Preschool/PreK, as well as running the Extended Day program for PS-8th grades.

Susan Johnson ~ Lead Teacher Monkeys

Educational Philosophy:
I absolutely love teaching; it really is the best job in the world. I enjoy helping children learn and grow.  I love to watch my students get excited as they learn to do something new! I strive to help my students build a strong foundation that will help them accomplish everything that God has planned for them! I am a lifelong learner and I hope to inspire my students to never stop exploring the world around them!

Years of experience/Education:
I graduated from Western Washington University with a B.A. in Elementary Education. I majored in Early Childhood Development. I taught Kindergarten for 10+ years. I have two children Lily (8) and Emily (6).
